Joseph Grossi 

Classroom Teacher

Mr. Joseph joins us for his third year at WIS. He is from the USA and has lived in China for over ten years.  He majored in International Relations and Chinese at U.C. Davis and has his teaching certificate from West Florida University. He taught English in Taipei, Shanghai, and Beijing. Mr. Joseph has passed the HSK6 and is proficient in both simplified and traditional characters. He has played the trumpet for ten years and enjoys playing his red plastic trumpet with his son at night.



Lucas Yan

Chinese Language and Culture

Mr Lucas Yan loves working with children and excels in teaching Chinese for lower grades. He is able to foster a strong academic atmosphere and a love for books, for which his class has been awarded Model Class for multiple times. Lucas had led the school’s teaching and research team in Chinese for the professional growth of all Chinese teachers, and has rich experiences in teaching open lessons.  He has earned various honors including first prize in District Chinese Teaching Proficiency Contest, first prize in District Contest of Story-writing about Teaching Experiences.



Zhou Yeyue (Dianna)

Math Co-Teacher

Ms. Yeyue will be joining us after earning her teaching credentials from The University of Alberta and MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  Here teaching experience comes from elementary schools in Edmonton.  She is a specialist in differentiated instruction and will teach her students to be critical thinkers.



Maggie McElhenny

English Language Learning

Maggie come to WIS with experience in international teaching including South Korea as well as previous experience in both Beijing and Hangzhou.  She received her Bachelor of Arts with a major in History from the University of Minnesota in the USA and her Masters of Arts with a major in Migration and Ethnic Studies from the University of Amsterdam In the Netherlands.  She received her teaching license from the Teach Now School of Education with a major in ESL and 7-12 Social Studies.



Ms. Genesis Sampson

Classroom Teacher

Ms. Genesis is from Canada and is currently teaching 1st grade at Escuela Internacional Sampedrana (EIS), in Honduras. Ms. Genesis also has experience as a learning community advisor, a dance and gymnastics instructor and a summer camp director. She also enjoys teaching piano lessons Ms. Genesis has a Bachelor of Education from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.



Yujin Chen (Cecilia)

Chinese Language and Culture

Cecilia holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Ningbo University. Her academic excellence and rich internship have equipped her with not only professionalism but also comprehensive supporting skills. As a student, she was awarded honors including Outstanding Students on University Level. As a teacher, she has been endeared by students since her training session. With energy and love, she makes her students united as a fire and brilliant as the starry night.



Sunshy Sun 

Math Co-Teacher

Sunshy’s degree is math education and math is her passion. As a student she has won first and third class scholarships, and  left university with the honor of Outstanding Graduate. In her spare time she has indulged in painting and calligraphy. Two years' practice of yoga has taught her to keep calm and feel things attentively. Education is the art of one cloud propelling another. She hopes her students and she  will grow together and “wait for the buds to burst into blooms.”

Cassandra Sheppard

Classroom Teacher

Ms. Cassandra is from the USA and brings several years of teaching experience in international education from both Chinese and South Korean educational organizations. Ms. Cassandra has BA from Loyola University in Chicago, IL. She received her teaching licensure through the University of West Florida in Elementary Education and English as a Second Language. 



Nancy Zheng

Chinese Language and Culture

(November-July)

Nancy got her double Bachelor’s Degree from Nankai University and Master’s Degree from Zhejiang University. She has been teaching Chinese Language and Chinese Culture in Wahaha Schools for 4 years. Nancy got prizes in case studies of Chinese Language teaching in Shangcheng District and has published essays and books on Chinese teaching of low grade level. She has been a member of Shangcheng Chinese teachers’ Workshop as well.



Gabby Li

Math Co-Teacher

Ms Gaby, has spent seven years as a classroom teacher and is proficient in English. She worked for HIS and a private school before WIS. She received training at Bryn Mawr college. She has a flexible and creative teaching style and works to combine Chinese math and American math in her class. She encourages students to think in different ways and solve problems creatively. Meanwhile, she encourages students to be comfortable with making mistakes and learning from mistakes. She embraces the idea of positive discipline and is a pretty good listener of students.



Mrs. Alexina Karimanzira

English Language Learning

Mrs. Alexina Karimanzira (nee Eghan) was born and raised in the capital city of Ghana, Accra. She completed her undergraduate in Economics and French partly at the University of Ghana and partly at the University of Caen, France.  She has a masters degree in Communication from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China.  She is fluent in English, Twi and French as well as conversational in Chinese.  She has been certified in teaching English as a Second Language and has been teaching English in China for over 6 years.



Gabriel Fernandez

Classroom Teacher

Mr. Gabriel is from Canada and has a wealth of international teaching experience. He has served as an elementary teacher in a variety of grade levels in Abu Dhabi and in the USA. He has also served as an ESL instructor in South Korea. Mr. Gabriel has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Education in Elementary Education with a Minor in Educational Psychology from the University of Alberta.



Danying Shen (Lisa)

Chinese Language and Culture

(also 2A August-October)

Lisa holds a B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature from Huzhou Teacher’s College, and “love, care and patience” is her teaching philosophy. Five years of teaching experience has provided her with unique teaching skills. She is able to guide her students by reasons and logic, and, applying project-based learning in groups, cultivate students’ skills in independent learning.



Yu Bi

Math Co-Teacher

Yu Bi brings a wide variety of experience to WIS. Yu has 2 years of teaching experience in mathematics, chemistry and biology for primary and secondary. Yu also has 5 years of teaching experience in piano (lesson delivered in English). Yu has lived and worked abroad for the past 9 years in Australia. Yu served as a nurse prior to becoming a teacher.

Arielle Turner 

Classroom Teacher

Ms. Arielle is from the USA and brings a plethora of teaching experience from the USA, Poland and Spain. Ms. Arielle has a BA with a dual major from University of California, Berkley. She has her teaching certification through University of Missouri, St. Louis. Ms. Arielle has her masters degree in bilingual education through Universidad Catolica San Antonio de Murcia, Murcia, Spain.



Katherine

Math Co-Teacher

Yu Bi, Bachelor of Nursing, graduated from Western Sydney University Medical School.

Artistically gifted yet passionate about the teaching profession, Yu Bi has personally received award of academic excellence from the Governor of New South Wales, and has demonstrated two years of proven excellence in teaching with numerous students ranked Top 3 in New South Wales Higher School Certificate exam. In the past 5 years she has also served as an Australian AMEB registered piano teacher, an Australian Registered Nurse (Paediatric/Emergency Medicine), and an Australian NAATI accredited Chinese/English Translator.



Cameron Boyd

English Language Learning

Cameron is from the United States, specifically the state of Indiana. He graduated from university in Las Vegas and has experience teaching in both South Korea and China. He has taught students ranging from ages 2-12 with different levels of English speaking. From his experience he has learned that each student learns at a different pace and has different strengths, He looks forward to getting to know each of the students so that he can optimize their learning in the classroom.



Bobbi Jo Rademacher

Classroom Teacher

Ms Bobbi has been an elementary teacher for over 20 years in the USA. She has a BA in Elementary Education in Spanish and French from Concordia College. She has a masters in Gifted Education and Talent Development from MN State University Mankato. She is licensed through the state of Minnesota in Elementary Education.



Bessie Li

Chinese Language and Culture

Bessie teaches grade four Chinese. Bessie holds a master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages from Xiamen University, and has been teaching Chinese in international schools for four years. She has obtained unique insights especially in the teaching of Chinese reading and Chinese culture, and is able to create a learning environment that is interesting and with a distinct flavor of traditional culture. Students in her class have seen noticeable improvements in their Chinese language competence.



Journey Liu

Chinese Math

Journey has a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Changchun Normal University;  She also has her credentials for teaching as a bilingual teacher.  She has a teaching philosophy of respect for the students, students first, encourage innovation.  She has the innovation to combine the strengths of Chinese math with Western math to cultivate the math talents of her students.



Cary Kotsimpos

English Language Learning

Cary Kotsimpos, a veteran Canadian English Language Learning educator, who has taught at all levels of instruction. Cary has over 25 years teaching English in the United Kingdom, Canada, Greece and China. She has won numerous teaching awards and published several articles related to education, in addition to conducting professional development workshops for teachers. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from York University in Canada and a Masters of Education Degree from La Verne University in the United States. Cary holds both an Advance Diploma in English Language Teaching and TESOL/TEFL Certification from Toronto, Canada. 



Marcella Simmonds

Classroom Teacher

Ms. Marcella has extensive experience in 5th and 6th grade elementary classroom teaching in Minnesota. She has a BA in elementary education from Bethel University. She also has her masters in curriculum and instruction from University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN.



Emo Yuan

Chinese Language and Culture

After graduating from Central China Normal University with a B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature, for five years Emo has been a teacher, during which time she continued her study and earned a master’s degree. She is an earnest participant of life and finds love in its details, reading, writhing, cooking, and more. These she shares with her students. Her Chinese culture course is a gate through which students view, touch, and listen to history and culture, and serves to establish confidence in their cultural identity. Her teaching empowers students to become inheritors and communicators of Chinese culture.



April Li

Math Co-Teacher

April is a master from the Technology University of Delft in the Netherlands. She devotes herself to education with passion, and is currently the Grade 5 Math teacher in WIS. She believes that all children have potential and creativity, and gives children the chance for autonomic learning in her class. Her energy and preciseness are welcomed by students and parents. She hopes to learn and grow with children with professional teaching skills and advanced teaching philosophy.



Nick George

English Language Learning

Mr. Nick, is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and has a BA from the university of Guelph.  He has been with Wahaha schools for two years and is very happy to be moving to WIS 5th grade. He have been in China for more than six years, living in Hangzhou for the majority of that time. Before working at Wahaha, He was the manager of a training school in Xiaoshan, after that, he worked for New Oriental English and private corporate training.  He has almost a decade of teaching experience between China, Brazil and Canada.



Alicia Pan

Chinese as a Second Language

Alicia graduated from Shanghai International Studies University with a Master's degree of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. In the year 2014 she worked in the Confucius Institute of Catholic University of Peru where she taught Chinese language courses as well as Chinese culture courses such as calligraphy, paper-cutting and Chinese folk music. She also taught online Chinese courses in Spanish there. In the year of 2015 she taught the Chinese immersion program in Draper Elementary, Utah, USA.



Zhou Xia

Chinese as a Second Language

Zhou Xia received her Masters of Arts in Teaching Chinese as a second language from the University of Hong Kong and has received her Certificate of International Chinese Teacher from the Confucius Institute Headquarters and Hanban.  She has been teaching for 3 years.  Besides being fluent in Chinese, she is also fluent in English and Korean.  She also loves traditional calligraphy and paper cutting.  



Meihua Zhang

Chinese Culture Specialist

Meihua Zhang holds the Master degree from Zhejiang University. Meihua will be serving as our Chinese Culture Specialist for our G1-G5 students.



Travis Robertson

English Language Arts

Mr. Travis comes to us from British Columbia Canada. Travis brings to us a high degree of understanding from an inquiry based pedagogy as well as integration technology based into the teaching and learning. Travis has a deep experience in international education. Travis brings experience within the  IB specifically Middle Years Program. Travis has a BS from the University of British Columbia as well as a BA with a major in English from Simon Fraser University.



Rachael Thompson

Science

Rachel Thompson is from Houston, Texas. She holds a B.S in Interdisciplinary Studies for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, and Geology from the University of Houston College of Education where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She has taught MS Science in Houston for 5 years and brings a wealth of experience to WIS. She coached the Science Olympiad team for 2 years and saw the team through from regional to state with several students placing first at state in their events. 


 

Alex Ford

Math

Alex Ford is a veteran math teacher with 15 years experience at a Gifted and Talented Magnet School in St Paul, MN.  He has a M.A. in Mathematics Education from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. in Mathematics from Grinnell College in Iowa. He has been the district coordinator for middle school mathematics competitions in Minnesota and he also co-authored the middle school mathematics curriculum for the Minnesota Twins in 2009.  



Raina Sukhnani

Math

Raina Sukhnani has been our MS Math teacher for the last two years. She holds a PGCE from Nottingham University in the UK and a B.A in Physics from Bombay University in India. She has a Massachusetts educators license from the USA and she is working on obtaining a teaching qualification in Canada. With over 20 years experience teaching Math, Science and English to students of varying ages she is truly an international educator. 



Patt Mills

Social Studies

Patt Mills is a highly experienced teacher with 10 years experience teaching Social Studies internationally; including the past three years in China. She holds a MA in Education from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon and a B.A in History from Lewis & Clarke College in Portland, Oregon. Being a lifelong learner is important to her and she has taken it upon herself to learn about all regions of the world where she has lived. As an educator, she loves sharing her passion for the past with students and more importantly helping them to find their own passions. 



Angie Wang Xuan

Chinese Language

Our Chinese Teacher, Angie Wang Xuan is one of the founding teachers at WIS MS. She holds a master’s degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong where she was recognized on the Dean’s Honor List. Upon graduating, she worked at the Yale-China Chinese Language Center of the University. She has developed a unique Chinese Language Arts curriculum and texts in order to prepare students to become world citizens. 



Ada Li

Chinese Humanities

Ada Li is a graduate of Si-Mian Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and East China Normal University with a major in the Intellectual History of Modern China. She has done research in combining Philosophy, History and Chinese Literature. She has developed a strong Chinese Culture program focusing on Chinese History and Geography. In her class, she encourages students not only to study the historical facts of China and the world, but, more importantly, the laws underlying social change. 



Mandy Meng Jin

Chinese Language

I an Meng Jin, my English name is Mandy. I graduated from Beijing Normal University with a major in History of education, and my research direction was the history of modern Chinese universities and the history of modern American primary education. Education should be a dialogue and openness in the heart for me. My ideal classroom should be full of dignity and vitality. I hope that my students and I will be able to create, discover and know ourselves in our classrooms, hoping that we can become true self in education.



Betsy Verb

Technology

Betsy Verb joins WIS as our Middle School Technology Teacher and brings over 12 years experience teaching in the US and India. She graduated with a M.S in Educational Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida in 2013 and a B.S from the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. At her past school in Florida, she was the Technology & Design Department Chair. She also ran her own full service design company from print to web. With this wealth of experience, she will work with our teachers to incorporate technology into all areas of our curriculum.



Sean Trotter

English Language Learning

Our ELL teacher, Sean Trotter, is from Ireland and has taught in China for the last 5 years. He graduated from the University of Ulster with a B.A (Hons) in International Politics and later from the University of Sheffield with a PGCE. He has taught English, History and Geography. As the ELL teacher, he works with students to develop a range of communicative language skills in addition to providing language support to content area teachers by pre-teaching vocabulary and academic language frames as required. 



Michelle Henry

Art

Michelle Henry brings 18 successful years in education and leadership to WIS, teaching in both the US and Dubai.  She is highly experienced with the Common Core States Standards, and values project and inquiry based learning with a cross curricular approach. As the K-8 art teacher, she will work with our kids to instill a love and appreciation of art. 



Linsey Rae

Music

Linsey Rae is our spectacular Music Teacher at WIS. She is from Glasgow in Scotland, UK. She has a degree in Music from the University of Edinburgh, specializing in Music in the Community. Initially she began her studies in Music Technology and has taught this in school as well as Music. After working as a community tutor at the university and a youth worker in Edinburgh for 2 years, she went back to the University of Edinburgh to do a PGDE in Music Education. 



Jon Herron

Physical Education

Jon Herron is from Newcastle, England. He has a B.A in Primary School Education, specializing in physical education and a M.A in International Development & Education from Newcastle University. He is a qualified Personal Trainer and before joining WIS as our Physical Education & Health Teacher, he also taught English for several years. He works to help students develop fitness and sportsmanship. 



Diego Castro

STEAM

We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Diego as our new STEAM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) specialist. Mr. Diego was most recently employed as a teacher of biology in Honduras. He also has experience as a computer teacher, chemistry, biology and statistics teacher. Diego has an MBA from Trinity University in San Antonio as well as a BS degree in Biology.



Tamika Henry

Teacher on Special Assignment

Ms. Tamika is the Curriculum Mapping and Testing  Teacher on Special Assignment. Ms. Tamika will be serving as our assessment coordinator and working with our school data. She will also be working on curriculum alignment.  She is currently completing her Doctorate in Teacher Leadership from Walden University.



Shane Wall

Academic Affairs Coordinator

My name is Mr. Shane. I am from Australia, where I have been an elementary teacher for the past 20 years. I started my career at Wahaha International School as a KG teacher. Last year I was a literacy facilitator. I am excited to be serving our students, families and staff as the Academic Affairs Coordinator. I have loved having the opportunity to bring my ideas here to China and show the children new ways to learn. The results we have achieved so far have been fantastic and I am looking forward to seeing just how much further we can go over the rest of the semester.

 


Erica Ford

Learning Support Teacher

We will welcome Ms. Erica into our newly created position of Learning Support Teacher. Ms. Erica is a special education teacher over 11 years of experience in the field. She has primarily worked with elementary age students, and has experience teaching students with learning differences, autism, developmental disabilities, and emotional and behavioral challenges. She is passionate about helping all students succeed. Erica has an Autism Spectrum Disorders certificate, an MA in Special Education and a BA in Journalism and English.



Amy Pierce

International Librarian

Amy is most excited to begin her 3rd year at Wahaha as the International Librarian.  She comes from Missouri in the USA, but now considers China her home.  She has her Bachelors from Western Michigan University and has been an educator for 25+ years, serving all in the elementary as a Music Teacher, Computer Lab Teacher, Homeroom Teacher and Librarian.  She is very happy to be returning to Library!
