Can you tell me more about your faculty?

AT WIS we currently have 29 international teachers and 26 Chinese teachers, all with excellent skills and rich teaching experience. In the primary program, there is one ex-pat homeroom teacher per class. In the middle school program, one specialist teacher is responsible for each subject.

Are there any overseas summer camps?

Yes. The school arranges summer camps for students to experience classroom teaching both locally and abroad, enhancing their language proficiency and skills for an independent life. A week of training is provided for students before leaving for summer camp.

What English and math textbooks do you use in WIS? What is the percentage of the class hours of your English program? What subjects are taught in English?

With the exception of Chinese language, all subjects are taught in English by international teachers, therefore 80% or more of the teaching is in English. For English Language and Literature and phonics we use Lucy Calkins. For Mathematics in PYP, we use a rigorous blend of Investigations and Singapore Math. For mathematics in MYP, we use the IB Haese Mathematics books with students also doing some rigorous advanced work that places them a year ahead of most schools.

Is your program exclusively for students applying to overseas high schools, or is it in any way advantageous when it comes to the national high school entrance exams?

WIS students cannot take the national high school entrance exams. They will go to overseas high schools or domestic internationalized high schools.

How many students do you enroll each year? And what is your class size?

There are no more than 22 students in primary school classes. For the middle school program, class size varies and at this point, we still have some available seats.

How do I apply to WIS?

We recommend that you first schedule a school tour and visit a classroom to watch teachers and students in action. If interested in following the school tour, the student submits an application form with relevant documents and the non-refundable application fee of 2,000 yuan. The admission process also includes an interview with parents, classroom observation/assessment, and for middle school students, English and math testing.

What are the admission requirements for WIS?

WIS offers places to:

• Dependents of foreign citizens with a residence permit within the territory of the People’s Republic of China (residence permit or passport is required).

• Dependents of Chinese citizens of Hong Kong, Taiwan or Macao identity and with residence permit within the territory of Zhejiang Province (for students from Hong Kong or Macao, passport is required, for those from Taiwan, Home Return Certificate of Taiwan Compatriots).

• Dependents of Chinese citizens with foreign permanent residence permit (Chinese green card or any document of equal effect is required).

What is the admission test like? Is there a paper test or just an oral test?

Primary-year program: there is reading diagnostic test, class observation and an interview with parents is required.

Middle-year program: you can expect a diagnostic test, classroom performance observation, and interview with parents.

Does the school provide national education registration?

No. Instead of national education registration, they will need a transcript, recommendation letters from teachers, a personal statement, and standardized examination results.

How long do applicants have to wait for the result after application?

Parents will usually be notified within 2 weeks.
