WHY WIS

Established in 2015, Wahaha International School (WIS) is a non-profit international school in Hangzhou serving students in Grades 1–9. With authorised IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes and Cognia accreditation, WIS combines English-immersion learning with a rich Chinese language and culture curriculum.

杭州娃哈哈外籍人员子女学校（WIS）创办于2015年，是一所扎根杭州的非营利性国际学校，面向一至九年级招生。学校拥有IB小学项目（PYP）和中学项目（MYP）正式授权，并获得Cognia认证，将英语浸润式教学与丰富的中文及中国文化课程有机结合。

01｜孩子以前没上过IB课程，能适应WIS的学习方式吗？

My child has never attended an IB school. Will they be able to adapt to learning at WIS?

Learning begins with understanding where each child is. WIS is an authorised IB World School offering the PYP and MYP. Our curriculum combines the IB framework with standards such as Common Core, NGSS and the Chinese National Curriculum, building subject knowledge alongside inquiry and practical application. Teachers assess each child’s starting point and provide differentiated support, helping students gradually develop the skills and confidence to ask questions, investigate, collaborate and learn independently.

理解孩子的学习起点，是教学的开始。WIS是一所获得PYP和MYP正式授权的IB世界学校，以IB框架融合中国国家课程、美国Common Core及NGSS等国际课程标准，将扎实的学科学习与探究实践相结合。教师通过评估了解孩子的学习起点，提供差异化支持，帮助他们逐步掌握提问、研究与合作的方法，建立自主学习的能力与信心。

02｜孩子英语基础很一般，全英文课堂跟得上吗？

My child’s English is still developing. Will they be able to keep up in an English-medium classroom?

Language support is closely connected to everyday learning. WIS offers English as an Additional Language (EAL) in both the PYP and MYP. Through in-class support, small-group teaching and individual learning plans, students develop their English, understand classroom content and build confidence in communication. MYP English teaching is also organized into four phases, allowing students to progress alongside peers at similar proficiency levels.

语言支持与孩子每天的学习紧密相连。WIS小学和中学均开设EAL（英语外语支持）课程，通过入班协同教学、小组学习和个别学习计划，帮助有需要的学生提升英语能力、理解课堂内容并建立表达信心。中学英语教学同时分为四个层级，让学生与水平相近的同伴共同进步。

03｜国际学校孩子的中文基础差距大，学校会怎么教？

Students come with very different levels of Chinese. How does WIS meet their diverse learning needs?

WIS offers differentiated Chinese courses for native and non-native speakers, with Chinese as an Additional Language (CAL) available in both the PYP and MYP. School-developed resources and teaching tailored to different proficiency levels help students build on their existing skills. A rich variety of traditional and contemporary Chinese cultural activities, alongside opportunities such as the Chinese Debate Club, bring language learning to life and deepen cultural understanding.

WIS针对中文母语及非母语学生设计分层课程，小学和中学均开设CAL（对外汉语支持），结合特色中文校本资源与差异化教学，支持不同起点的孩子持续进步。丰富多样的中国传统与现代文化活动，以及中文辩论社团等拓展机会，让孩子在体验与表达中运用中文，加深文化理解。

04｜有些孩子学得快，有些需要一点帮助，学校怎么做？

How does WIS support students who learn quickly or need a little extra help?

Students grow when they receive both the support they need and opportunities to stretch themselves. Differentiated teaching runs through both the PYP and MYP at WIS. Through the PYP station teaching model and leveled instruction in MYP core subjects, teachers use assessments to tailor learning tasks and challenge levels, helping students strengthen their foundations while providing advanced space for deeper exploration.

成长需要适时的支持，也需要恰当的挑战。WIS将差异化教学贯穿小学与中学，通过PYP站点教学模式与MYP核心学科分层教学，结合评估调整学习任务与挑战程度，既帮助需要支持的孩子夯实基础，也为学有余力的孩子提供深入探索的空间。

05｜在WIS，我们怎么看见孩子的学习进步？

How can we see the progress our child is making at WIS?

Progress becomes visible through what students understand, create, and apply. WIS brings together classroom tasks, unit assessments, project presentations, and standardized tools such as MAP and STAR Reading to monitor learning over time. The Grade 5 PYP Exhibition and Grade 9 Community Project further show how students apply research, collaboration, and critical thinking to address real-world issues.

孩子的进步，体现在理解、创造与运用之中。学校结合课堂任务、单元测试、项目展示及 MAP、STAR 阅读等标准化评估，持续跟进学习进展。PYP毕业展（PYPX）和九年级社区项目（Community Project），则全面展示了孩子运用知识、开展研究与合作解决真实问题的能力。

06｜刚来到WIS，孩子能交到朋友、融入校园吗？

Will my child be able to make friends and feel at home at WIS?

WIS’s homeroom system places everyday care at the heart of school life. Each PYP class has two homeroom teachers—one Chinese-speaking and one English-speaking—who support learning habits, emotional well-being, and friendships. Grades 6 and 7 continue with two homeroom teachers, with Grade 7 gradually preparing students for a single-teacher model and greater independence. Working with families, grade and programme leaders, and pastoral staff, homeroom teachers help children feel understood, build connections, and find their place in the community.

Events like International Day, Sports Day, and Spirit Week offer vibrant opportunities for students to connect and engage in school life.

WIS 以双班主任制度将关怀融入每一天：小学每班配备中英文双班主任，共同关注学生的学习习惯、情绪表达与同伴关系；六、七年级延续双班主任支持，并逐步向单班主任模式过渡，培养自主与责任意识。班主任协同家庭、年级及项目负责人与学生关怀团队，让孩子在被理解、被支持的日常中建立友谊，找到归属感。

此外，国际日、运动会和校园精神文化周等丰富活动，也让孩子在参与中认识彼此、融入校园。

07｜除了学习，孩子还能发现哪些兴趣和特长？

What opportunities will my child have to discover interests and develop talents beyond the classroom?

New interests often begin with an opportunity to try. Through WIS Extension Courses, Electives, and the 3J Foundation Program, students explore opportunities ranging from VEX Robotics, Ukulele, and Rugby to Choir, Digital Making, and Debate. These experiences encourage creativity, self-expression, and teamwork, helping children discover what they enjoy and where their strengths lie.

兴趣往往从一次尝试开始。WIS通过拓展课程、选修课程和基金会创新项目，为孩子提供多样化选择。从VEX机器人、尤克里里、橄榄球，到合唱、数字创客和辩论，孩子在动手创造、表达与团队合作中发现热爱、发展所长。

08｜学期中途能加入WIS吗？申请从哪里开始？

Can my child join WIS during the school year, and how do we apply?

WIS offers rolling admissions for Grades 1–9 year-round. Subject to availability, qualified applicants are invited for an admissions assessment, or placed on a waitlist if seats are full. We encourage you to reach out to our Admissions Team with your child’s academic background and target entry date to explore eligibility, admission procedures, and fees. Joining our Open House is a wonderful way to start this journey.

WIS 全年接受一至九年级的入学申请。在学位允许的情况下，学校将为符合条件的学生安排入学测试；若学位满额，则进入等候名单。您可以先向招生团队介绍孩子的学习背景与计划入学时间，了解具体的申请资格、入学流程及费用。参加校园开放日，正是开启这段交流的绝佳机会。
