As the final drumbeat echoed through the theatre and the last willow leaf was tucked into a bookmark, the 2025 Hangzhou Wahaha Schools Winter Show, themed “IDENTITY: The Mosaic of Us,” came to a successful conclusion.
On this sunny winter day, we didn’t just see a series of performances; we witnessed every student’s sincere exploration of the simple yet eternal question: “Who am I?”
Though the curtains have fallen, those moments of discovery, creativity, and love continue to resonate throughout the campus.
“In that moment,
we heard the voices from the bottom of each other’s hearts.”
The grand celebration opened with a powerful chorus from the entire school. As the melody of This Is Me filled the atrium, it was more than just a magnificent performance by a thousand voices; it was an emotional resonance that touched everyone’s soul.
The tears and laughter flowing through the crowd perfectly illustrated the warm essence of the WIS family—here, every “I” is seen, and every “I” matters.
The MYP Winter Show took parents on “A Day in The Life” of a student, focusing on gaining independence, building confidence, and fostering agency.
In a lesson titled “Willow’s Identity,” the CAL and CLL students acted as cultural detectives, tracing the symbolic meaning of “willows” in ancient poetry to understand how cultural symbols shape our collective and individual identities.
MYP English Class pulled back the curtain on the “Power of Persuasion.” Grade 8 students analyzed how professional media uses language, imagery, and color in advertising to influence audience perception and self-identity.
The Grade 6 students explored the world of “Probability and Identity.” By collecting and comparing theoretical and experimental data through probability, they collaboratively created “Mosaic of Us,” proving that individual randomness contributes to a structured collective whole.
Through hands-on discoveries of “Sound, Wave and Light,” the Grade 7 students showcased how light and sound carry energy through different mediums. They drew parallels between the unique physical properties of waves and our own unique individual identities.
Grade 9 students challenged visitors to consider the duality of progress: “Has industrialization been more positive or more negative for humans and the Earth?” By evaluating diverse historical sources and multiple perspectives, students demonstrated their ability to navigate complex global issues with a critical mind.
The debate session was the highlight of the MYP showcase. In the Chinese debate, debaters engaged in a heated battle of wits regarding the factors that shape personal identity. In the English debate, students demonstrated rigorous logical construction under pressure. Parents stepped up as eager challengers, making the debate a vibrant intellectual exchange. Students and parents shared perspectives, sparred thoughtfully, and seamlessly pivoted between defense and attack. This vividly embodied the goal of becoming “critical thinkers.”
Coordinated by the Grade 5 Talk Show team, the PYP segments told the story of identity through various media styles.
As the show’s “soul threaders”, Grade 5 students hosted the Winter Show in various roles including talk show hosts, news broadcasters, and vlog narrators. Finally, they took the stage collectively and declared with spirited vigor: “This is who we are, and we are defining the future!”
Dressed in traditional attire from China, France, Italy, and India, our little “diplomats” showcased various cultural and heritage backgrounds of our community. They reminded us that identity begins at home and extends to the wide world.
The stage became a vibrant “Emotion Rainbow.” Through expressive dances, students showed that every feeling—anger, sadness, or joy—is a part of our true self and a superpower for connection.
In this powerful performance, the mosaic background evolved from a single tile into a brilliant pattern. With LED ribbons, drums, and future-themed shields, students explored who they were, are, and will become.
Through vivid sound experiments, students captured identity memories—from morning alarms to laughter on campus—showing that identity lives in the everyday echoes of our lives.
The event concluded with parents and students adding feathers of reflection to our WIS Goose. These messages represent the Wings of Growth, carrying our evolving identities toward a bright future.
Happy Winter Show 2025!
We are who we are!
