WIS came alive with an unforgettable Spirit Week— a vibrant celebration of school culture and community spirit.
Centered around language arts, reading, and cross-disciplinary learning, this year’s theme seamlessly wove creativity into academic growth.
Over five action-packed days, students and teachers dove into themed activities — expanding vocabulary, deepening literary appreciation, exploring Chinese cultural roots, and embracing intergenerational reading.
The week culminated on the fifth day with an exhilarating marathon — a powerful symbol of perseverance, teamwork, and the lifelong pursuit of learning.
DAY 1 /
London-Themed Escape Room Adventure
On Monday, students and teachers wore vocabulary-themed outfits with pride.
Our MYP students kicked off Spirit Week with an exciting London-Themed Escape Room challenge. The activity brought together students from all English phases—creating a unique opportunity for mixed-level collaboration beyond their regular English groups.
Working in teams, students solved riddles, completed reading comprehension tasks, analysed poems, and built words to uncover clues. Each step led them closer to deciphering the final escape sentence:
“At Wahaha,
We Dream Of A Future Adventure Together!”
The event aimed to strengthen collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, while also reinforcing key English language skills such as reading, writing, analysing, and vocabulary building through creative wordsearch puzzles.
It was an engaging start to Spirit Week, filled with teamwork, laughter, and the joy of learning through adventure.
From Monday through Thursday, WIS held a MyON read-a-thon, and collectively the students logged an impressive 15,503 minutes of reading.
DAY 2 /
Book Day & Author Visit
Tuesday brought literary magic to campus as students dressed up as their favorite book characters — a true feast for the imagination!
We were also honored to welcome poet, author and rapper Christian Foley, who inspired students with his engaging talk about writing, storytelling, and the power of words.
The day encouraged everyone to connect with literature in fun and meaningful ways, reminding us how stories can spark curiosity and creativity in every reader.
DAY 3 /
Chinese Day Shines
with Cultural Vibes
Wednesday, the campus was transformed into a vibrant celebration of Chinese written language, immersing students and staff in a day dedicated to cultural appreciation. The event successfully creating a shared experience for the entire school community.
Students enthusiastically participated in hands-on activities, testing their skills in hard-tip calligraphy to understand the discipline and artistry behind each stroke. The creative fan-painting station further allowed them to express their individuality, adorning personalized fans with meaningful words and unique artwork, blending linguistic elements with visual creativity.
Meanwhile, teachers deepened their connection to the roots of Chinese civilization by attending a dedicated writing workshop. There, they collaboratively traced oracle bone scripts, gaining a tangible link to the ancient origins of Chinese writing. This immersive experience provided a profound appreciation for the evolution and depth of their cultural heritage.
The day served as a powerful reminder of the living history embodied in the Chinese language, fostering a renewed sense of pride and cultural identity across all participants.
DAY 4 /
Buddy Reading:
A Cozy, Connected Vibe
Thursday focused on comfort and connection. Students and staff wore their coziest pajamas, turning the school into one big, welcoming reading space where everyone could relax with a book.
“Drop Everything and Read” (DEAR) happened through-out the day. Our leadership team, parents, and EAL teachers stopped by different classes and locations to read aloud to the students. It was wonderful to see the kids light up with surprise, joy, and pride as their parents and school leaders shared a range of English and Chinese books. The aim was to make reading a fun and meaningful part of Spirit Week.
During P8, PYP participated in a buddy reading activity. Older students paired with younger ones to read together: KG with G3, G2 with G5, and G1 with G4. The pairs swapped stories, shared laughs, and celebrated the joy of reading as a community.
