This year, we are excited to launch the fully upgraded whole school Extension Courses and WIS MYP Electives Program, encompassing diverse fields such as advanced academic exploration, interdisciplinary integration practices, and artistic & technological innovation, providing students with even more opportunities to explore their passions, discover hidden strengths, and develop essential skills both inside and outside the classroom. With the compass of their own interests, students set sail toward broader horizons.
All courses are customized by WIS teachers based on students’ academic proficiency, personal interests, and future aspirations.

WIS Extension Courses:
Going the Extra Mile
WIS has upgraded its after-school Extension Courses this semester, further enriching students’ learning experiences and preparing them for future challenges in and out of the classroom. Extension activities at WIS are designed to support students’ academic interests, bolster important skills, and provide unique learning opportunities.
These school-based Extension Courses complement our IB curriculum, allowing students to deepen knowledge, and excel in specific areas of interest. By engaging in targeted, high-level learning opportunities, students develop not only academic competence but also confidence, discipline, and critical problem-solving skills.
Our Extension Courses not only focus on academic enhancement but also feature a year-round competition curriculum, helping students systematically prepare for various academic contests, with a strong emphasis on core areas such as Mathematics and Science. Through this targeted competition preparation, students develop problem-solving strategies, strengthen logical and analytical thinking, and apply their knowledge across disciplines, enhancing creativity and innovative thinking.
Creative Writing (G3-5)
Students ignite imagination and storytelling skills learning to express ideas clearly and creatively while cultivating a lifelong appreciation for writing.
English Enhancement (G1-G3)
Students strengthen their language proficiency and literary analysis abilities. Providing students with better listening, speaking, and writing skills and allowing them to have a greater comfort and command of the English language.
Spelling Bee (G1-5)
Students master phonetics and spelling while expanding their vocabulary in a fun, competitive setting, building precision, memory skills, a love of language, and academic confidence.
TOEFL Preparation (G5-9)
Students are provided comprehensive training in test-taking strategies and English language proficiency with the aim of improving TOEFL scores and better equipping students to confidently meet international university entrance requirements.
Math & Science Competition Training(G3-9)
Students are given year-round competition curriculum and core contest preparation for a myriad of competitions. This includes but is not limited to AMC and National Science League which are administered on our campus every year.
Additionally, WIS offers specialty programs supported by the 3J Foundation.
These programs grow out of the WIS teachers’ wide-ranging passions and strong academic expertise. Inspired by their own interests, teachers are eager to innovate, designing creative projects and co-exploring intellectually stimulating fields alongside students. They tailor courses to different grade levels and individual student interests, making learning both relevant and engaging. Examples include Orff Music (G1–2), Youth Choir (G3–5), Chinese Critical Thinking (G3–4), STEM Club (G4–5), and Student Bands (G3–9).

MYP Electives Program:
Learning Beyond Boundaries
To help every student find their passion, we have carefully designed a structured electives system. Every Wednesday afternoon, the entire MYP comes alive as students form interest-based classes across grade levels—truly becoming the masters of their own learning journey. The MYP Electives Program is more than a curriculum extension—it is a transformative journey of exploration and discovery.
All courses are led by WIS MYP teachers, ensuring expert guidance and a high-quality learning experience.
Program Goals:
●Elective courses will challenge students (G6-9) to make connections to content areas, apply skills and, interact with students in other grades in ways that extend beyond the standard curricular opportunities.
●Provide a supportive space that inspires intrinsic motivation, allowing students to pursue their chosen paths, turning “interest” into “aspiration” and allowing “passion” to be the best teacher.
Program Highlights:
●Grade-Specific Academic Depth (G6-7 & G8-9)
Tailored to the unique characteristics of each grade cluster, we strengthen Math and Science learning through structured academic extension courses. Teachers design differentiated pathways based on students’ academic readiness, ensuring that each learner is challenged at an appropriate level. By offering diverse course options and tiered levels of depth, students have more opportunities to engage meaningfully with subject material, gradually becoming empowered, independent and confident learners.
●Personalized Learning Development
Teachers guide students to choose courses aligned with their interests, tailoring selections to individual learning journeys to cultivate initiative, self-awareness, and meaningful personal growth. Every child discovers their unique path forward.
●Cross-Grade Collaboration
Students in Grades 6–9 learn together, cultivating leadership, teamwork, and mentorship skills in a blended learning environment.
●Language & Literature Extension
All of our Elective courses are taught in English which allows students to further time to develop their speaking, writing, and listening skills which broadening their vocabulary in an area of passion.
●Future-Ready Skills
The curriculum emphasizes creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, application, and communication, cultivating the comprehensive competencies students need for their future.

Featured Electives
●Math Inquiry & Application
In Math Inquiry and Application students are challenged to become proficient problem solvers. They engage with the Mathematics curriculum in ways that push their ability to not only solve problems but truly understand the myriad of pathways to solutions.
●Science Exploration & Implementation
The Science Exploration and Implementation elective looks to build students’ ability to use the Science content they have learned in class in practical real-world ways. They become complex thinkers and practitioners of Science content beyond the standard curriculum.
●English Debate
In English Debate, students develop skills around the art of building arguments and researching accurate and relevant information to build their points on. Working closely with the teacher, students hone public speaking skills, craft pointed rebuttals, and learn to work as a debate team.
●Speech Writing and Public Speaking
Develop stage presence and effective communication, empowering students to confidently express ideas in any setting. Students in Speech Writing and Public Speaking learn to write compelling and engaging pieces in a number of different formats. Through targeted writing workshops and public speaking practice students learn the art of public speaking and gain a more confident stage presence.
●Chinese Calligraphy
The Calligraphy Elective teaches students the art of Chinese characters. Students are taught brush techniques that transcend simple character writing and allow them to better understand how characters are true symbols of meaning.
●Academy of Art
The Academy of Art is designed to offer students opportunities beyond the standard curriculum. It provides a creative space where students can express themselves, experiment with new materials, and deepen their understanding of art as both a personal and practical skill through engaging, hands-on projects.
●Kinesthetics
The Kinesthetics elective builds connections between body and mind. Students in this elective learn how to control their movements through targeted exercises that build coordination, posture, balance, spatial awareness, and agility.
Every Wednesday afternoon, the WIS campus is filled with energy and excitement. Classrooms transform into stages for creativity, discussion, experimentation, and discovery—learning is vibrant, student-centered, and full of joy.
