Move-Up
Day
As early spring blossoms, so do young minds, full of curiosity and anticipation.
Last week, Wahaha International School successfully hosted its 2026 Grade 5 Move-Up Day—an inspiring milestone for students preparing to transition from the PYP to the MYP.
Another cohort of learners on the verge of leaving the PYP stepped into the world of the MYP, immersing themselves in authentic MYP experiences. From dynamic classrooms to vibrant campus life, they embarked on a meaningful journey of exploration and discovery.
For students, the move from PYP to MYP is more than a shift between divisions—it marks a transformation in how they learn, think, and grow.
As a fully authorized IB World School for both the PYP and MYP, WIS has developed a comprehensive transition framework that supports every student holistically—through aligned curricula, well-rounded academic assessment, personalized pathways, and close parent-school partnerships.
This Move-Up Day is a key part of that framework. Centered on three pillars—Academic Continuity, Emotional Belonging, and Skill Development—it helps students ease uncertainty, build confidence, and step into their next phase of learning with clarity and readiness.
On the day, each Grade 5 student was paired with a Grade 6 buddy, offering guidance and companionship throughout the experience.
From the very first icebreaker, MYP students warmly shared their daily routines, explained subject choices, and guided their younger peers around the campus—helping them settle in and collect their personalized learning booklets.
From lessons to break time, from lunch to informal Q&A moments, this thoughtful peer support allowed every PYP student to truly feel the warmth and inclusivity of the MYP community.
The day followed a real MYP timetable, giving students a true taste of MYP learning. Through hands-on inquiry and creative exploration, they experienced both the pace and depth of MYP classrooms.
Students became “interstellar explorers,” investigating the concept of gravity and simulating how it differs across planets—bringing abstract physics to life through inquiry.
In their first encounter with this subject, students designed their own islands, considering geography, resources, and culture—gaining insight into how societies are formed.
A brand-new subject for many, Design encouraged students to create imaginative creatures using clay, while reflecting on the relationship between organisms and their environments.
Beyond calculations, students applied mathematical reasoning to solve real-world problems, experiencing both the challenge and satisfaction of deeper thinking.
In the art classroom, students explored mosaic techniques, discovering how color, shape, and composition come together to form a cohesive piece.
Moving to the GYM, students learned basic volleyball techniques, realizing the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship through passing and collaboration.
Focusing on psychological adaptation, students engaged in fun challenges to learn how to solve complex problems through unity and cooperation.
During English class, G5 students experienced the English phases for the first time. Based on their proficiency, they were assigned to a different phase to experience MYP English with G6&7 students.
In Chinese classes, G5 students experienced differentiated instruction. Teachers encouraged them to express ideas confidently, think critically, and apply language skills in meaningful contexts.
Beyond core subjects, students also sampled a range of MYP electives, opening doors to new interests and future pathways.
Observing alcohol combustion experiments in the lab, students rigorously recorded the scientific principles behind chemical reactions.
Starting with the rules of debate, students practiced critical thinking and quick-response skills.
Students learned how to structure a speech and mastered techniques for confident self-expression in front of an audience.
Feeling the charm of traditional culture through ink and brush, students cultivated focus and aesthetic appreciation.
At the end of the day, students returned with their completed learning booklets and their very first piece of “MYP homework.” This gentle academic preview helps them gradually adapt to the expectations and rhythm of secondary learning.
Dear students,
the doors to the MYP are now open
We look forward to welcoming you again in the golden autumn—stronger, more confident, and ready to thrive.
Move-Up
Day
