Eighth grade science students expanded their geology studies into the realm of volcanoes and earthquakes. They investigated the effect of heat on the viscosity of fluids, and correlated this to different types of lava flows. They also researched and presented the ways engineers design and test buildings to determine their resistance to damage during an earthquake event; including successful real world examples.
