Dear WIS Parents,

I hope you have enjoyed a relaxing holiday together with your family, and that you are looking forward to the new term here at WIS. Starting this term we are inviting all parents to school assemblies, that will take place in the Big Theatre on the last Friday every month. It will be an opportunity for the students to showcase aspects of all the learning that is going on at the school, as well as sharing their other talents with the WIS community. We are very excited about these assemblies, and sincerely wish you can attend – starting Friday 29 March.

If you have not had the time to familiarise yourself with our brand-new and improved website, please do. We will add more components to it soon, including a parent’s portal and our monthly newsletter. Watch that space!

WIS Growth

At WIS we are also continuing to grow our Middle School and we have a couple of new students joining us now after the holidays. We are also on-track of having a Middle School with four separate grades (6, 7, 8 and 9) for next academic year, with a predicted grade 10 the following year; which also is the final year of the IB Middle Years Programmeand graduation from MYP. As part of this growth I am now close to finalising the hiring of more experienced teachers to further strengthen both sections of the school, and will present them to the WIS community shortly.

ManageBac

During the teachers’ professional development day on 18 February, we trained in a new information sharing platform and curriculum depository called ManageBac – “ the leading planning, assessment and reporting platform for the IB Programmes. The trusted choice of IB students from over 2,500 leading IB world schools.” It is the platform that we will use to share with parents; the students’ curriculum, assignments calendar, results, attendance, report cards etc. We had the regional manager from Shanghai, coaching all WIS teachers and leaders. We will spend the next few months to input all necessary data, including our WIS curriculum for all grades and subjects; to be ready to be launched to the WIS community next term.
