On November 8th, WIS G2A students took a field trip to West Lake and Leifeng Pagoda. They had been learning about Hangzhou in their social studies class and were studying tales relating to West lake. At the Pagoda they saw pieces of ruins from the historic site before restoration, some ancient relics and the stories behind them. They climbed the stairs to the eighth floor and came to an astounding view of the landscape below. Another site was the Golden Buffalo Town Midst the Lake, where students learned the history of the site.
WIS taps into the cultural background of the local community as a complement to the curriculum. Bilingual materials are studied and adapted for role plays, and field trips to historic sites are organized to provide off-campus learning experiences. These serve to offer an intercultural and trans-disciplinary curriculum of humanities that combines knowledge and practice.
